A Hollywood star who appeared in Star Wars animated series Ewok’s in 1985 has sadly died at the age of 84. Richard Donat was best known for his role as Vince Teagues in Haven from 2010-2015, but also appeared in shows like Little House on the Prairie, Trailer Park Boys and Hemlock Grove.
Richard was the younger brother of X Files star Peter Donat, who was best known as Fox Mulder’s father William on the hit sci-fi series. Peter sadly died in 2018 aged 90 – eight years before his brother Richard would sadly follow him. Both brothers were nephews to English actor Robert Donat, who starred in Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps.
Richard died on March 28, his family announced.
He lived in Nova Scotia, which is also where he filmed Haven – based on Stephen King’s novella The Colorado Kid.
He said of filming so close to home: “I have always lived here and then this show comes along and suddenly your life is changed. It is quite extraordinary really.”
Richard is survived by his partner Maggie Thomas and their sons Owen and Morgan. He also leaves behind grandchildren Charlize, Nadia, Mira and Taran.
His family life was marred by tragedy – his brother Peter died from complications from diabetes. His uncle Robert, however, was just 53 years old when he died from a “brain tumour the size of a duck egg.”
Cerebral thrombosis was listed as the primary cause of death for Robert, describing a blood clot in the brain.
Robert, at the time, left behind his wife Renee Asherson and their three children.
