The Elko Regional Airport in Nevada, United States, was shut down on Monday, April 13, after an active shooter situation was reported at the site.

Lieutenant Shane Daz of the Elko Police Department confirmed that officers were alerted to the active shooter at 12.30pm local time on Monday afternoon, with one person found dead upon their arrival at the scene.

KSL TV has reported that the deceased is a juvenile.

The Elko Police Department said in a statement: "Police are investigating a crime scene at the Elko Airport. The airport is closed to all traffic at this time. We will update you when it is back open."

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
