Lisa Snowdon has been left bed-bound from lingering health issues left over from her battle with meningitis, which she contracted back in 2010. The I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! contestant, 54, explained on social media today (April 13) that she is still struggling with the effects of the virus all these years later.

Lisa said: “The week started so beautifully albeit I was full of cold travelling to Paris. I pushed through and we had the best time, with the best weather and stayed at the most beautiful hotel. I wanted to spoil Willow [Lisa’s niece] rotten, I did. I also however got scammed by a Parisian taxi. I have his number plate, absolute a******e. My bank here has been useless.”

“My headache started yesterday morning and I’ve not been able to get out of bed today.

“The pain in my head is so intense all I can do is try to sleep.

“The after effects of meningitis come back every so often through stress and extreme fatigue and the headaches are almost unbearable.

“I had to pull out of events and let people down which upsets me a lot. Thank you to those of you for being so understanding.”

This Morning star Lisa’s post was accompanied by a photo of her reclining on a mound of pillows with her eyes closed, after she was confined to hospital for 10 days in 2010 with the virus.

She explained last year: “I ignored my body and the signs it was giving me for almost a month.

“It was November 2010 – I was co-hosting the Capital Breakfast show daily, early starts and long days, running from event to event, convincing myself that the crushing headaches, the fever, the stiff neck were just end-of-year exhaustion.

“No amount of painkillers touched the pain. When I switched on the Bond Street Christmas lights, I was on the verge of collapse.”

She added: “My parents were called and told that I was incredibly sick and they should say their goodbyes. Even now, over a decade on, I know I’m not quite the same – I struggle with headaches, fatigue and my memory isn’t as sharp as it was.”
