Paramedics were scrambled to Manchester Airport on Saturday morning after a man believed to be an aircraft engineer was seriously injured in a fall from the back of a plane. It is understood the man has suffered multiple serious injuries including leg and arm fractures, the Manchester Evening News reports. He reportedly remains in hospital after the incident, which happened on April 11 at around 8am.

Photographs from the scene show ambulances and fire service response vehicles surrounding a Jet2 plane in the immediate aftermath. It is understood the man was a contractor working for Jet2 at the time. He hasn't been named. The airline confirmed that a "full" investigation has now been launched.

A Jet2 spokesperson said: "We are aware of an incident that took place at Manchester Airport this morning (Saturday 11th April) involving an individual from a third-party provider. We are unable to confirm further details at present, however, can confirm that a full investigation has been launched.

"We are doing our best to provide support to everyone who needs it."

Witnesses reported medical screens were placed around the injured man during the emergency services response.

The plane is seen in the images with a rear door open near the tail. Mobile stairs used for passengers are also seen nearby.

Manchester Airport confirmed North West Ambulance Service attended the incident. It's understood the plane was due to depart to Tenerife.
