A contestant, who appeared on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, has spoken about the moment she had a row with the hosts on the ITV show. Sarah North took part in the game Banned Words, where she had to describe an item shown on screen without using three forbidden words or naming the picture itself.

When it was her fellow player Mark's turn to identify a traffic cone, Sarah tried her best to describe it without using the words orange, hazard or road.

At first, she said it was "stripy", before going on to say the item is used "when there is traffic".

Seconds later, the game was stopped as Ant and Dec explained that, with "traffic" being part of the word, she had broken the rules - but she was having none of it.

Hitting back, the studio audience member argued that "traffic" wasn't among the three banned words.

"It’s a traffic cone, if it's the thing then it's a banned word," Ant explained. While continuing to make her point, Dec reiterated, saying: "But it's the title of the thing."

As the crowd laughed at the hilarious disagreement unfolding, he added: "Let’s not argue about it Sarah!".

The contestant, owner of Happy Ham, a personalised items company, eventually won £500 for her efforts, though she missed out on a holiday.

Reflecting on the on-air moment, she jokingly said she still feels "cheated" by the game.

Sharing what happened when the cameras stopped rolling, Sarah spoke about her backstage exchange with Dec over the moment.

She added: "I spoke to Dec quickly as I was backstage doing the [paper]work and he was laughing saying, 'I can’t believe you argued on TV'.

"I still think I was in the right. I was cheated out of my place on the plane," the business owner laughed.

Asked what it was like meeting Ant and Dec, she continued: "We didn't get to see them much as I was busy doing paperwork, but my time with them when I was playing the game was so much fun.

"They were exactly as you expect them to be. I’m from Newcastle so Byker Grove was a part of growing up. I even once got out of school early to go to a PJ and Duncan CD signing in HMV.

"When you have grown up watching them, it is then surreal being with them as you forget you don’t actually know them," she added.

Ant and Dec put a pause on filming Saturday Night Takeaway in 2024 after 20 years on air.

Ahead of the final series, the pair said they were going "out with a bang". Having reached the milestone of 20 years, they added it was the "perfect time to pause for a little while and catch our breath".

The duo remain on screens with other shows, including I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Britain's Got Talent.

Britain's Got Talent airs tonight at 6.45pm on ITV and ITVX.
