
Coronation Street star Angela Pleasance, the daughter of Donald Pleasence, has died aged 84. She appeared on the ITV soap in 1968, and also starred in Doctor Who, Casualty and The Bill. Her death was announced by her management company in a statement on Instagram: “We are very sad to announce the passing of our dear client, Angela Pleasence. During her career which spanned more than six decades, Angela appeared in more than sixty different screen roles. Some of her most memorable roles were in films including From Beyond the Grave and A Christmas Carol. In 1968, the actress joined Coronation Street in a guest role as a character named Monica Sutton.
"She then went on to work extensively in TV and appeared in shows such as Doctor Who, Happy Valley, Casualty and Whitechapel, in which she had a regular role for a series, The Bill. Angela also had a minor role in 2002 Hollywood movie Gangs of New York."
Her agency added: "While never defined by any one genre, her contribution to the British industry remains a distinctive and much-admired part of her legacy. Our thoughts are with her family at this very sad time."
Angela was also the daughter of famous English actor Donald. He was best known for his roles in horror franchise Halloween, as well as the Great Escape.
He starred in over 250 stage, film and television roles across his six-decade career. Donald was appointed an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his services to drama before his death 1995 aged 75.
He shared Angela with his wife Miriam Raymond, and also had daughters Miranda, Polly Jo, Lucy and Jean.
Angela followed in her father's footsteps from a young age, and her first big role was in Hitler: The Last Ten Days, before she bagged appearances in horror movies including From Beyond the Grave and Symptoms.
Tributes flooded in from online, as fans posted on Instagram in response to Angela's agency's statement. One said: "So sad to hear of this. Condolences to her family. She was a wonderful and talented actress," as another added: "Great talent great loss. Condolences for family and friends. A beautiful actress."
A third agreed: "She was fabulous, very sad to hear this. Rip."
