Brooklyn Beckham, who changed his name to Peltz-Beckham when he married his wife Nicola Peltz-Beckham, is said to want to regain control of his name. There has been an ongoing feud with his parents for some time, but it all came to light earlier this year when Brooklyn went into the details of the drama that had emerged with Victoria Beckham and David Beckham and the various incidents that led to their fall-out, one of which was an argument over his name. He stated at the time that his parents wanted Brooklyn to sign away the rights to his name.
While they have not spoken in 15 months, reports have now claimed that the UK power couple have offered to meet him with "lawyers, Nicola's parents, siblings, a therapist or a mediator" in order to start healing their ongoing rift. Particularly ahead of the reported renewal on his trademarked name.
A source told The Sun that Victoria had trademarked the Intellectual Property for his full name back in 2016/17 to protect him from exploitation. They said: "It certainly wasn't a malicious thing and the view was that Brooklyn could do with it what he wanted in adulthood."
However, Brooklyn viewed it as "another example of control being displayed over him". It was noted that he feels "infantilised" and is now "weighing up all his options" but is yet to make any decisions.
Brooklyn made his feelings over his name very clear when he first announced the public fallout via his Instagram post, writing: "Weeks before our big day, my parents repeatedly pressured andattempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name, which would have affected me, my wife, and our future children."
He also said at the time: "I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.
"I do not want to reconcile with my family. I'm not being controlled, I'm standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into," adding that he has seen "the lengths that they'll go through to place countless lies in the media".
His parents have not commented on Brooklyn's claims themselves, but have continued to work business as usual.
