Starz has released a teaser for Blessed Are the Merciful alongside a brief episode summary, which reads: "The Frasers and the MacKenzies recover after their respective battles and consider their next steps. Ian and Rachel meet someone who they hope can help them find Emily."
The teaser for the upcoming instalment shows Captain Cunningham (played by Captain Cunningham) recovering in bed following a gunshot wound.
"What do you have to say for yourself, then, Captain?" Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) questions his adversary.
Yet Captain Cunningham simply replies: "Are you going to kill me?"
Jamie remains non-committal as he answers: "You have made your bed, so now you must lie in it."
Elsewhere, Young Ian Murray (John Bell) and his spouse Rachel Hunter (Izzy Meikle-Small) set off to locate his former Mohawk relatives following a savage massacre of Native Americans.
"I know thee loved Emily," Rachel tells her husband, who assures her: "But our souls weren't meant to be one."
Subsequently, Rachel converses with a Native American man, who enquires, "You do not trust him?"
The implication is that Rachel harbours doubts about Young Ian, as she had previously hinted to Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe).
Rachel tells the man: "I cannot say whether it is him I do not trust or myself. But that is what I shall find out."
At Fraser's Ridge, Jamie and Claire confront a dreadful predicament regarding the wives and families of the men who betrayed him and enlisted in Cunningham's militia.
"What about the women? They shouldn't be punished for their husbands' transgressions," Claire says.
The footage transitions to one woman pleading with Jamie to rescue them, promising they will "do anything". The trailer reaches a dramatic climax as Jamie declares, "These men betrayed me. If they come within my sight to land again, I will kill them."
Outlander season 8 airs on Starz in the USA on Fridays and on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK on Saturdays
