Wildlife cameraman and photographer Doug Allan has died aged 74 while he was trekking in Nepal. The cameraman was the lead worker on multiple BBC projects including The Blue Planet, Blue Planet II, Planet Earth and Frozen Planet, meaning he had spent a lot of time working very closely with Sir David Attenborough. His success on the projects landed him eight Emmy Awards and he was made OBE for services to broadcast media and environmental awareness back in 2024.

His management company shared that he had died while "immersed in nature" and was "surrounded by friends". He was described by Jo Sarsby Management as a "true pioneer of wildlife filmmaking" and was praised for taking "some of the most breathtaking and intimate images" of nature. They shared that he left behind a "visual legacy that few could ever match", while praising his work for bringing "audiences closer to the wonders of our natural planet, inspiring awe, understanding and deep respect for the planet".

In the statement, they continued: "When we think of Doug, we will always remember his unforgettable kindness and his extraordinary talent. He was a true gentleman and he will be profoundly missed.

"Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues across the wildlife filmmaking industry and the many people around the world who admired his work."

Meanwhile his ex-wife, Sue Flood OBE, said that it was comforting to know he was "doing something adventurous with a dear friend of ours, with whom he'd shared many adventures over several decades". Sue, also a wildlife photographer, said his influence on her life had been "profound" and prompted her lifetime of working in the polar regions, something they were both passionate about.
