Gemma Collins is going into the I'm A Celebrity jungle for a second time, but the TV star is now in a very different place of life than she was previously, and she's faced a lot more challenging life experiences than she had when she previously decided to drop out of the series. The TOWIE star has been open over the years about the medical journey she's faced in trying to conceive after having multiple miscarriages, with a heartbreaking experience during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown.
She historically said on her own podcast, The Gemma Collins Podcast, that she had a miscarriage when she was unknowingly four months pregnant. The reality star said: "I've had some shocking things happen to me, I'm not sure I've spoken about this before. I actually gave birth to a child, sadly, and basically the child was four months old, basically I miscarried but obviously the baby was formed and it died in front of me."
Gemma said it had been a "very traumatising experience" because she wasn't aware she was pregnant and woke up in severe pain. In the years since, Gemma has still shared her dreams of having a child, previously telling The Sun: "It would be great for me to send such a positive message for all the girls out there who don't want to rush their life, or their life has taken a different direction, like me who's put their career first."
She was also once advised to terminate a pregnancy after doctors told her that her growing baby was intersex, which is a term used to describe people with sex characteristics that fall outside of the typical male or female, including variations in chromosomes, genitals, reproductive organs and secondary sex traits. She previously said on the Everything I Know About Me podcast: "In a single instant, I learned that I'd been carrying a baby and lost it, meaning that once again I found my longstanding dreams of motherhood shattered into pieces."
She also previously said on Good Morning Britain that she was keen to become a foster carer, telling the hosts at the time that her mum was fostered as a child and she would be keen to do the same thing for a young child.
Gemma told the hosts: "There's a lot of love I can give. I always make a good dinner!" Over the years she's been open about her health battles, including dealing with PCOS, which she previously told her followers that she ws still trying to remain positive while battling the condition. She said at the time: "I chose to rise above and continued to promote body confidence even when I had my own personal struggles, the secret to my success was just being me.
"Lots of people have bullied me, taunted me, and early on in the industry 'lose weight, you're too fat to promote my brand'," adding that it was "endless". However she finished the post with the firm statement: "My heart has always been the same no matter my size."
