At least seven people have been left injured after a hotel ceiling caved in on Easter Sunday.
The horrifying incident took place at Poseidón Palace, a well-known tourist hotel in Benidorm. Sections of plasterboard and air conditioning ducts came crashing down on around 60 guests who were dining at the hotel.
Emergency services raced to the scene and confirmed that amongst the casualties was an eight year old boy and a 78 year old man, both of whom were rushed to hospital but subsequently discharged following treatment.
Five further individuals, aged between 33 and 80, were taken to hospital following the shocking incident, with one of them currently under observation at Hospital de la Marina Baixa, according to local media reports.
CICU officials activated SAMU medical units alongside basic life support and non-assisted transport teams to manage the incident. Red Cross personnel provided assistance in caring for those affected during the chaotic scenes at the popular Costa Blanca resort.
At this stage, the cause of the collapse at the three-star establishment remains unclear – however, this is not the first such incident to have beset the Benidorm hotel scene. The beloved Spanish coastal resort is renowned for its vibrant nightlife, extensive selection of accommodation and high-rise buildings, golden shores and much more. It remains a favoured destination for numerous hen and stag celebrations, while others celebrate the historic Old Town and splendour of its natural, dramatic coastlines which stand in sharp contrast to the more commonly recognised imagery linked with Benidorm.
The yearly report from Visit Benidorm revealed that in 2025, the Spanish destination attracted over three million tourists and it's estimated approximately 900,000 of those originated from the UK.
The Express has approached Poseidón Palace for comment but has not yet received a response.
