Darren Day revealed he had to be rushed to hospital an hour before he was meant to perform on stage for his latest pantomime performance. On Friday afternoon, the 80s singer had to made a dash to A&E with a broken arm which happened before he was set to start in a touring production of Mother Goose.

The 57-year-old actor took to Instagram to explain: “Currently sitting in A&E with suspected broken bones in my wrist and elbow! Just over an hour ‘til I’m onstage!" The star, who recently became a grandparent, plays the evil Demon Vanity alongside Helen Flanagan as Princess Jill and Basil Brush as King Basil. Darren was due to perform at the Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury when he suffered the accident.

His co-star Helen, who is perhaps best known for playing Rosie Webster in Coronation Street and appearing on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! commented: “You're the best, Darren. Love you loads.”

Debbie Gibson wrote: “Sending healing vibes.” Meanwhile, another follower said: “Sending you so much love, gorgeous one. Hope your hand heals well.”

A fourth penned: “Wishing you a speedy recovery, Darren.” Another concerned fan added: “Wish you a speedy recovery. Hope it is not too painful.”

Someone else said with multiple crying emojis: “I hope they can sort your arm out, Darren and that you can get back to work. That’s going to hurt.”

The incident comes shortly after Darren and his ex-partner, Suzanne Shaw, 44, confirmed they had become grandparents after their son, Corey, and his girlfriend, Erin, welcomed their son, Colton, into the world.

Darren quipped on social media: “Grandad loves you so much…and is actually old enough to be a Grandparent, unlike Nanny! @suzi_shaw.”
