A comedian who has starred as a voice actor in shows like The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers has been rushed to hospital after suffering serious injuries in a car crash. US star Eugene Mirman had to be pulled from the burning vehicle after his Lucid Gravity caught fire with him trapped inside at a New Hampshire toll plaza.
A state trooper, who was part of Governor Kelly Ayotte’s security team, pulled Mirman from the car through a window alongside the governor herself. New Hampshire state police colonel Mark Hall praised the team as “heroic”, stating: “Without hesitation, they put themselves in danger to render aid to someone who was in need of it.”
Mirman was alone in the SUV when it caught fire and was taken to hospital.
His agent said: “Eugene was in a very scary car accident. He wants to thank the bystanders, state police, first responders and hospital staff who saved him.
“He is grateful to be on the mend. At this time, we kindly ask for privacy for Eugene and his family as he focuses on recovering from his injuries.”
No charges were filed in relation to the incident, but photos from the scene show the car between concrete barriers at the toll plaza with flames erupting out of it and the bodywork melting away.
Eugene is best known for voicing Gene Belcher on Bob’s Burgers, and starred in shows like Flight of the Conchords and Delocated.
Fans have rushed to support him on social media, with one writing on Instagram: “Eugene please be okay!! We are all praying for you.”
“I’m hoping you’re okay Eugene. I’m praying for you,” another echoed.
A third fan said: “Sending healing thoughts and prayers to you.”
