Richard Osman’s wife Ingrid Oliver was left stunned after he made a film confession. Richard, 55, has worked in the television industry since the 1990s, when he was a script writer for shows such as Whose Line Is It Anyway? and Have I Got News for You.
More recently he has appeared on programmes like Pointless and Richard Osman’s House of Games. It was through the latter that he met actress and comedian Ingrid, who has appeared in the likes of Doctor Who.

It was during their early days dating that Richard revealed he left Ingrid shocked by confessing he hadn’t seen some iconic Hollywood films. He says they had become “blind spots” in his viewing history.
Speaking on The Rest Is Entertainment, Richard said: “I had a lot more blind spots before I married Ingrid, because Ingrid would start talking to me about the Sound of Music and I’d go, ‘Oh, I’ve never seen the Sound of Music’.
“And she’d be like, ‘I’m sorry’, And I’d be like, ‘I’ve never seen the Sound of Music’. ‘You’ve never seen the Sound of Music?’ ‘No, when would I have seen it?’ would be my point.”
Richard went on to explain Ingrid said “when he was younger”. At which point he quizzed his wife about whether she had watched the “1979 FA Cup final when Alan Sunderland scored in the last minute”.

He continued: “That’s the kind of stuff I was watching. Spoiler alert, I have now seen the Sound of Music.”
Richard’s admission came after a podcast listener admitted they haven’t seen Titanic because they “know how it ends”. The former Pointless star added: “The Sound of Music, like all these things, I thought, ‘I know this film, I’ve seen every single clip of it’.
“Then you watch it and you go, ‘Oh my God, this is amazing, this is why people like the Sound of Music’. There’s a reason that some of these iconic films are iconic, because they’ve got all those clips you’ve seen, but in between it you’re like, ‘Oh I didn’t know this was going to happen in this film’.
“So I hadn’t seen Sound of Music, now I have. I hadn’t seen Top Gun, which I think was even worse, she put that right almost immediately, I think that was like third date we had to go see Top Gun.”

Richard’s co-host Marina Hyde chimed in saying that is a “great third date” idea. Richard replied: “Yeah, at a drive-in.”
Other films he hadn’t watched included the likes of West Side Story and Mary Poppins. However there is one huge film company Richard says he won’t watch.
He said: “Almost every Disney movie I have not seen and will never see, it just doesn’t speak to me. When my kids were growing up, the Pixar stuff was coming out, so you’ve got Monsters Inc, you had Toy Story, the golden age of that, so those were the things I would watch with my kids and I never watched Disney when I was growing up. I will never watch Disney at all.”
Richard added that in terms of television, he had “never watched the Sopranos” because he wanted to watch it with someone. He said: “I had never watched the Sopranos for a different reason, I knew I would be incredibly excited to watch the Sopranos at some point, but I knew I wanted to watch it with somebody.
“In my head, a tiny bit of me was wondering if that person would show up. Very early on, on a date with Ingrid, we were talking about TV and I was talking about the Sopranos and she said, ‘I’ve never seen Sopranos and the reason I’ve never seen it is because I keep waiting for that person to turn up’.”
He says they later agreed not to watch it until they get married. They are currently watching the series, he explained.
