Lindsey Buckingham, known for being the guitarist of the rock band Fleetwood Mac, was doused in an unidentified substance in Los Angeles on Wednesday (April 1). The 76-year-old was arriving for an appointment in Santa Monica when he was set upon by a woman, multiple law enforcement sources claimed. The woman hurled the unknown substance at Buckingham when he entered the building before fleeing the scene, NBC 4 Los Angeles reported.

The woman was reportedly identified as a stalking suspect, with law enforcement insiders claiming Buckingham had been aware of her from previous incidents. It is believed Buckingham was not injured in the attack. With a suspect identified, an arrest is expected to be made as the Los Angeles Police Department and Santa Monica Police Department investigate.

It comes after Buckingham was granted a restraining order against a stalker named Michelle. There is no indication that Michelle is related to today's incident.

He said the harassment began in 2021, when the woman obtained his wife Kristen Messner's phone number and repeatedly rang her.

Buckingham accused Michelle of "leaving long drawn-out messages that included the claim that she was my child and threats to kill me and my family".

"She also blamed me for facial deformities she apparently suffered as a child and demanded money," he said in a court hearing on December 20, 2024. "I do not know [Michelle] and I am not her father."

Michelle was reportedly instructed by police to cease contacting the Buckingham family in 2022, so he let the matter go. The musician subsequently discovered Michelle had also been reaching out to his son, William, 27, since 2021, and that he had been ignoring her calls.

However, Michelle returned in 2024, leaving a collage outside his home featuring photos of her face mixed with images of him.

In November of that year, "nearly a dozen" police officers arrived at Buckingham's home, handcuffed him and took him outside after a false 911 call was made.

Buckingham testified in court that emergency services had been told that William was armed and intending to harm himself inside the house, and that gunshots had been fired.

Once officers established the call was a hoax, he was released from the handcuffs, and it was later confirmed the call had been traced back to Michelle.

"I now know that the 911 call was traced to [Michelle's] phone and was the latest in an unabated pattern of harassment and threatening acts against my family and me," he said in the court hearing.

The five-year restraining order requires Michelle to stay at least 100 yards from Buckingham, his wife, and William, and prohibits her from threatening, harassing, or contacting him in any way.

Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 and brought his then-lover Stevie Nicks into the band.

Their intense personal and professional relationship defined the band's golden era, which produced iconic albums like Rumours, which became one of the best-selling albums worldwide.

Buckingham and Nicks ended their relationship in 1976, and ongoing tensions within the band led to his dramatic departure in 1987.

He officially rejoined Fleetwood Mac in 1997 later and toured with them for more than two decades before he was dropped from the band in 2018 due to tensions with Nicks.

The Daily Express has reached out to Buckingham's representatives for comment.
