Former MasterChef star Gregg Wallace has opened up on his financial struggles after leaving the BBC show. Taking to Instagram, the 61-year-old presenter admitted that he "worries about money probably much more than I should."
Speaking into the camera, he told his followers: "I've worried about it all of my life, even when I was earning a load of money, I still had a major worry over it. It's more than worry, it's an anxiety. It's always been with me and I don't really know where it comes from." He added: "It bothered me a lot at school that everybody seemed to have more than me, and as a teenager and as a young man. Everybody around me seemed to have more than I did. So I worked really, really hard and always put my money away. And I have always been safe for a number of years but it doesn't stop the anxiety."
He then touched on his exit from the BBC and how it impacted him. "So when I lost my job and all of my earnings," he said: "That anxiety just spiralled completely out of control. And, although people knock it, Cameo was the best thing that happened."
Gregg then wrapped up his chat as he said: "This money worry has been the one constant nagging fear for all of my life, and I'm sure I'm not alone."
Gregg is charging £40 a pop on fan video platform Cameo — and insiders say he’s on course to pull in around £20,000 a month.
Plugging the service on Instagram, he told followers the messages could be “sincere, heartfelt, cheeky or funny”.
The TV personality was sacked from MasterChef last year after an extensive probe upheld claims he used “inappropriate sexual language and humour” while working on the show.
Complaints spanned nearly two decades and included allegations from celebrity contestants.
