A comedian and actor has died at the age of 42 following a battle with cancer. Blue Bloods star Alex Duong passed away in the early hours of Saturday, March 28, according to reports. He was at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica and contracted septic shock leading to his death, close family friend Hilarie Steele confirmed to TMZ.
Alex was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer, alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, after experiencing severe headaches which manifested behind his eye in 2025. His diagnosis saw him embark on an aggressive treatment regime to try and fight the disease, but devastatingly it continued to progress.
Hilarie previously established a GoFundMe campaign in an effort to assist Alex on his journey to regain sight he lost during his battle. However, following his death the campaign is now accepting donations to help support his wife Cristina, and their five year old daughter Everest.
A post on the page reads, "We are overwhelmed with gratitude - because of you, we have already reached the original goal. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
"At the same time, with Alex passing, Christina's situation has become more serious and the financial needs ahead are much greater than we could have anticipated. Alex's memorial service, Everest's education needs, ongoing care, daily support, and what lies ahead for his family mean we must continue raising funds beyond this initial goal.
"If you've already given, thank you - truly. If you're able to share or contribute again, it would mean everything right now.
"Please keep Alex and his family in your prayers. Your support is carrying them through the hardest time of their lives. We will update you with respect to details of his Celebration of Life."
The page has currently raised $103,810 of a $95,000 target. Alex previously worked on the Los Angeles comedy circuit, where he was renowned not only as a performer, but for manning the door at the world-famous Comedy Store on Sunset Strip.
Alex was the youngest of six children, born to Vietnamese and Chinese parents. He grew up in Dallas, Texas, before relocating to Los Angeles to chase his dreams in the entertainment industry.
Throughout his career he turned his talents to stand-up comedy, acting, and writing, appearing on productions including Netflix's Historical Roast, CBS's Blue Bloods, and The OnlyFans Roast of Whitney Cummings. He had been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 2009.
