Enthusiasts of crime dramas cannot miss a brand-new series arriving on Netflix later this week.

Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole launches shortly and centres on a troubled detective attempting to prevent a killer from striking again, occupying similar territory to Luther meets Line of Duty, reports the Mirror.

The programme is ideal viewing whilst awaiting the sequel to Luther: The Fallen Sun and series seven of Line of Duty, which is currently in development. Here's everything you need to know about Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole.

A total of nine episodes will be available, all dropping simultaneously for viewers to devour.

Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole is based on the bestselling Norwegian author and musician's celebrated book series.

Nesbø's fifth novel The Devil's Star (2003) provides the foundation for the programme and also incorporates material from the books The Redbreast (2000) and Nemesis (2002).

The programme follows titular detective Harry Hole (portrayed by Tobias Santelmann) as he attempts to hunt down a serial killer in Oslo, Norway, following the discovery of a woman's body in her flat.

Whilst endeavouring to solve the case, Harry finds himself in conflict with fellow detective and corrupt officer Tom Waaler (Joel Kinnaman). Netflix's description of the programme states: "Created by one of the greatest storytellers in crime fiction, Jo Nesbo's Detective Hole, is a whodunnit serial killer mystery led by famed anti-hero Harry Hole.

"Underneath the surface, this series is a nuanced character drama about two police officers – and supposed colleagues – operating on opposite sides of the law.

"Throughout the season, Harry goes head-to-head with his long-time adversary and corrupt detective Tom Waaler.

"Harry is a brilliant but tormented homicide detective who struggles with his demons. As the two navigate the blurred ethical lines of the criminal justice system, Harry must do all he can to catch a serial killer and bring Waaler to justice before it is too late."

Indeed, Netflix unveiled one on February 26, offering viewers a glimpse of what to anticipate from the upcoming series. The trailer can be viewed below.

Norwegian performer Tobias Santelmann takes on the role of troubled detective Harry Hole and is recognised for his performances in The Last Kingdom, Kon-Tiki, and Exit, amongst other productions.

Swedish-American actor Joel Kinnaman portrays detective Tom Waaler following appearances in Apple TV+'s For All Mankind, Hanna, Altered Carbon The Killing and Suicide Squad.

Norwegian performer Pia Tjelta plays Harry's girlfriend Rakel Fauke and includes credits in State of Happiness, Cold Lunch, Blindsone, Cold Lunch, Next Summer and Norsemen. Swedish actress Ellen Helinder, who portrays officer Beate Lønn, has previously starred in Exit alongside her co-actor Santelmann, as well as Beck, Studenternas undergång and Veronika.

The cast also features Anders Baasmo, Maxime Baune Bochud, Kåre Conradi, Simon J. Berger, Prison Break's Peter Stormare, Fridtjov Såheim, Eili Harboe, Atle Antonsen, Manish Sharma, Jesper Christensen, Kristoffer Joner, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Linn Skåber, Jonas Strand Gravli, Sonny Lindberg, Agnes Kittelsen, Nader Khademi, Agot Sendstad, Maja Christiansen, Frank Kjosås, Kelly Gale, Oddgeir Thune, Ravdeep Singh Bajwa, Henrik Mestad, Ingar Helge Gimle, Henriette Steenstrup, Helge Jordal, Eirik Hallert, Anders Danielsen Lie, Ane Dahl Torp and Dagny.
