Michael B. Jordan has clinched the Oscar for Best Actor at this year's Academy Awards for Sinners, edging out competition from Timothée Chalamet, reports the Mirror.

In his acceptance speech, Jordan expressed gratitude to director Ryan Coogler, stating: "I'm so honoured to call you a collaborator and a friend, you gave me the opportunity and the space to be seen."

He also paid tribute to previous black Oscar winners in the best actor and actress categories: "I stand here because of the people who came before me - Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx, Forest Whitaker, Will Smith."

He concluded: "Thank you everybody in this room and everybody at home, for supporting me over my career. I feel it, I know you guys want me to do well, and I want to do that, because you guys bet on me."

Before his Oscar triumph, Jordan had carved out an impressive career, beginning his journey in the acting industry as a child star, with his first credit according to IMDb being an episode of HBO's seminal class The Sopranos.

He went on to feature in various shows, including All My Children, The Assistants, Friday Night Lights, and Parenthood.

Jordan's film roles encompass Fruitvale Station, Fantastic Four, Creed, Black Panther, Fahrenheit 451, among other roles.

However, his fans may have overlooked one of his earliest roles in a TV "masterpiece", which saw Jordan and his co-stars garner significant praise.

Viewers have previously sung the show's praises on IMDb, with one person writing in their 10/10 review how it was an "American masterpiece" and the "single greatest narrative of our generation".

Whilst a second person wrote in their top-tier review: "The writing and acting for this amazing series is down right brilliant."

Adding: "The gritty attention to detail makes this series feel so real. It's easily one of the best shows of all-time."

A third wrote in their top-rated critique: "Definetly [sic] the most realistic show I have ever watch. You can feel for all of the characters, there is no certain good nor evil like the real life. Acting is also amazing, a piece of fine art."

Jordan featured in the classic series The Wire in the role of Wallace, a teenage drug dealer working for the Barksdale Organization, alongside his friends Bodie (J. D. Williams) and Poot (Tray Chaney).

Though it was a minor role, Jordan featured across 13 episodes and his performance was compelling.

The Wire ran for a total of five seasons on HBO. Despite never securing any major awards or top ratings during its original broadcast, it is regarded by many to be one of the greatest TV shows of all time.

The crime drama was created by journalist David Simon and followed various sections of Baltimore society from the drug corners of the projects and the docks to city hall and the media, delivering a gritty and gripping story.

The Wire also catapulted its extensive ensemble cast into stardom, including Idris Elba, Dominic West, Lance Reddick, Michael Kenneth Williams and Wendell Pierce, among others.
