
The man who died after being stabbed in Alum Rock has been named as Ali Alshmari, as detectives praise the response from members of the public. Police were called to Bridge Road in the Birmingham suburb just after midday on Wednesday to reports of a stabbing outside a block of flats.
Uniformed and plain clothed firearms officers attended the incident, where they found two people injured. Mr Alshmari, 30, was quickly pronounced dead at the scene, while a woman in her 50s was hospitalised with her injuries. She has since been discharged.
West Midlands Police arrested a 32-year-old man close to the scene, and he remains in custody on suspicion of murder.
A knife believed to have been used in the attack has been recovered and is being examined. The force is not treated the incident as terror-related.
It added: "We know that this happened close to a school, and we are meeting with members of the local community today to discuss their concerns and offer them reassurance."
