As the world nervously monitors the intensification of the US-Iran confrontation that developed over the weekend, billionaires may be ready for any possible consequences, courtesy of their cutting-edge bunkers.

With international conflicts, natural catastrophes, and numerous other threats to civilisation at unprecedented levels currently, the wealthiest 1% appear equipped to shelter through an apocalypse in the isolated regions of New Zealand or the Scottish Highlands, or on Pacific Ocean islands.

For certain affluent purchasers, New Zealand appears to be the sought-after location to prepare for a potential apocalypse.

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman told The New Yorker in 2017 that for the ultra wealthy, purchasing property in New Zealand has become a code for getting "apocalypse insurance."

He revealed to the publication: "Saying you're 'buying a house in New Zealand' is kind of a wink, wink, say no more."

Underground global shelter network Vivos said it installed a 300-person bunker on the South Island of New Zealand in 2020.

Another survival shelter firm, Rising S Bunkers, revealed that it had delivered around 10 private bunkers to New Zealand over the past few years.

Billionaires such as Sam Morgan, Peter Thiel, and Bill Foley have invested millions of pounds in expansive estates on the verdant island. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has dismissed rumours that he's ready for a doomsday scenario, maintaining in previous interviews that his bunker, linked to his ranch in Hawaii, is merely a "basement."

The expansive Hawaii estate features 11 treehouses interconnected by rope bridges, an underground bunker with a metal door filled with concrete, and several guest houses.

The primary structures comprise two mansions and the bunker, which according to Wired, spans 5,000 square feet and is connected to the buildings via a tunnel.

The bunkers provide room for mechanical equipment, living spaces, and an escape hatch, and the door will resemble those found in bomb shelters, People Magazine reports. Zuckerberg's Hawaii property has long been a topic of conjecture due to its vast size and stringent security measures.

"I think the whole thing got blown out of proportion, as if the whole ranch was some kind of, like, doomsday bunker," he said of his property in Hawaii. "It's just not true," he stated in a past interview with The Circut.
