Outlander season eight will be hitting screens at the end of the week, marking the last outing of the TV phenomenon, which has been on screens for over a decade.

Once the show wraps for good, fans of the Starz show will be left in a permanent Droughtlander, with only rewatches to fill the void.

However, those looking for shows like Outlander or even better than the epic fantasy series from the mind of American author Diana Gabaldon can stop searching.

Fans have hailed a TV show as “better” than Outlander after one viewer asked the Reddit community for recommendations for other similar programmes but featuring less of the darker material involving sexual assault.

Among the recommendations were The Tudors, Downton Abbey, Vikings, The Last Kingdom, Bridgerton, and My Lady Jane.

However, there is another show mentioned that has previously been praised by audience members on IMDb and is also on Starz, the same US cable network behind Outlander.

One person said of the show, which is a successor to two other miniseries: “[H]ere we have an excellent follow-up to the amazing show.”

They went on to say in their 9/10 review: “Once again, the production in all three shows is absolutely astounding.”

They person concluded: “What I love most about all three shows is the depiction of morally grey characters and it is so fascinating to watch because we are all so used to only "good and evil" characters.”

A second person described the acting as “superb” and commended the production values, including the sets and costumes to “rival” Game of Thrones.

They continued: “i know its a dramatization of much of real history but it piques my interest to learn more [sic]”. The user highly recommended the series and hoped for more.

A glowing 7/10 review read: “Honestly, I'd say this show was a great watch. Although there were some historical inaccuracies, overall the show did a great job in casting and moving the story along at a good pace so that viewers get the full experience and information about the time period.”

They added: “Most things were good and I would definitely recommend to those who like a historical show that has tension, romance, greed, and political intrigue.”

While a 10/10 review was titled “Very good series” and the fan explained: “Historically correct or not it's a great series and very interesting. Give it a go. Acting and scenes are superb.”

The Spanish Princess is a historical drama adapted from acclaimed author Philippa Gregory’s novels The Constant Princess (2005) and The King's Curse (2014).

The show is a sequel to TV shows The White Queen and The White Princess. The Spanish Princess followed title character Catherine of Aragon (played by Charlotte Hope), who became the Queen of England as the first wife of King Henry VIII (Ruairi O'Connor).

The Spanish Princess saw Catherine struggling to adjust to life and English customs after travelling to meet her husband-to-be and heir-apparent Arthur (Angus Imrie).

However, things take a turn after Arthur’s sudden death sees Catherine taking matters into her own hands as she tries to ensure peace between England and Spain by trying to marry her late husband-to-be’s younger brother, Henry.

The show was led by Hope, who is perhaps best known for her role as Myranda in Game of Thrones and also starred in Bancroft on ITV, Netflix’s The English Game, and Catch Me a Killer.

Other stars in The Spanish Princess included Alicia Borrachero, Harriet Walter from Succession, Elliot Cowan of Lost in Austen fame, Andrew Buchan from Broadchurch, Alexandra Moen, Nadia Parkes, and Laura Carmichael from Downton Abbey, among others.

The Spanish Princess was a 16-part limited series with the first eight episodes debuting in May 2019 and the latter half of the show arriving in 2020.
