Coronation Street favourite Beverley Callard has issued an emotional cancer update as she faces her gruelling breast cancer battle. Last week, the TV star announced that she was going in for a “big operation” where she had her lymph nodes removed as a precautionary measure to make sure the cancer hadn’t spread. One week on (February 27), the 68-year-old updated her followers on her recovery since the surgery, admitting that she has been “tired and queasy” as well as sore from the operation.

Taking to Instagram, she confessed: “Full disclosure, it’s been a week today since my operation, and I woke up this morning, and I put yesterday’s clothes on, which were dropped on the floor last night when I went to bed. I’ve not cleaned my teeth, I’ve not combed my hair, and I can’t answer my phone because if somebody says a kind word to me, I just cry.

“And I’m sore. I’m absolutely, absolutely rubbish today, and I’ve been like that all day. I’m really tired, I keep feeling a bit queasy, but I’ve no idea why, and I just thought, ‘Oh, I’m just not going to post anything today because I don’t want to make people feel miserable’. But maybe you’re feeling the same.”

The soap star went on to share a touching gift and card she received from a stranger who had also gone through breast cancer treatment. Beverly struggled to hold back tears as she read out the touching letter from the kind stranger.

Becoming emotional, she added: “And so, I just thought tomorrow will be a better day, and when I am really better, I’m going to give this as a gift to someone else who’s going through it.”

It didn’t take long before her loyal legion of fans flocked to the comments to pass on their well-wishes online. One user penned: “Aww, Beverly [heart emoji] Sending you so, so much love! The kindness of strangers is such a gorgeous thing.”

Another agreed: “Beverley, I hope you are resting with your heart pillow, such a lovely gift, I pray it really helps and makes you more comfortable.” A third chimed in with: “There are some gorgeous people in this world. How lovely it was to receive brighter days will come.”

Beverley, who recently joined iconic Irish soap Fair City, revealed earlier this month that her breast cancer was luckily caught in the “early stages” - and that she had been inspired to speak out about her serious health battle by “strong, feisty women”, adding that she would need radiotherapy.

But this isn’t the first cancer battle she has faced. Beverley was diagnosed with cancer at just 32 – but as she told fans, she “beat it” then, and she can do it again. The actress broke the shock news of her breast cancer diagnosis on Ireland’s Late Late Show with Patrick Kielty, telling fans she was staying “positive and strong”.

She revealed: “I had a hysterectomy and I was absolutely fine afterwards, and so I know I can beat this. I am scared now vanity-wise. I’m scared of what I will look like. I’m scared about hair loss, or whatever things like that.”

Beverley became a household name when she joined the ITV cobbles back in 1989, as Jim Donaldson’s long-suffering wife. She left the show three decades later, in 2020, maintaining that she was quitting because she wanted to explore other roles and fight “ageism” in the industry.
