Morrisons shoppers in one area have written to their local MP after a new fee was introduced for a service within the store. Some took to their local Facebook group to complain about the change, which they noticed upon recent visits to their nearest Morrisons Daily store.

Shoppers who want to withdraw cash from the ATM in the store now face a fee, leading to frustration for many. Shoppers in Stakeford, a village in Northumberland, have vented their frustration on social media. The cash machine is operated by an external provider, so charges and fees are not at the discretion of Morrisons. It is understood that the new fee is being introduced in ATMs in a number of Morrisons Daily stores in the UK as part of a new trial.

"Cash machine at Morrisons Daily now charges you to withdraw YOUR cash," said one frustrated customer.

Another shared: "It’s free until the end of the month, then they will charge. I have just rang them and they have confirmed it. This is very unfair and a precedent of free withdrawals has been set for many, many years. Time to write to your MP. This is another tax on people and your money."

A third revealed that they had already contacted their MP.

A slew of bank branches across the UK have also closed, and concerns have been raised for customers who might rely on in-person banking services.

According to the Payment Choice Alliance, the typical UK adult took out £1,352 from cash machines during 2025, representing a 5% drop compared to the £1,424 from the previous year.

A number of services have disappeared from Morrisons stores in 2025. The supermarket chain, which has thousands of stores across the UK, closed a number of its in-store cafes, pharmacies and florists.

However, Morrisons is not responsible for the fees for using the ATMs in its Morrisons Daily stores. Morrisons has been contacted by the Daily Express for comment.
