Broadway actress Sondra Lee, who acted alongside the late Robert Redford and coached Jane Fonda, has died at the age of 97, following a career spanning six decades in the industry. According to reports, Sondra died from natural causes in her New York City home on Monday night.

Her colleague Joshua Ellis made the announcement, and tributes have been flooding in ever since. One person shared on X: "RIP Sondra Lee, 97, tiny dynamo who originated the roles of Minnie Fay in Hello, Dolly! and Tiger Lily in Peter Pan." A second added: "Dance with the angels, dear Sondra Lee. Your energy is/was so vibrant and inviting. Always enjoyed seeing you. Rest gently. #SondraLee Original Minnie Fay in Hello Dolly and Tiger Lily in Peter Pan."

Another penned: "A Broadway legend lost. Sondra Lee brought magic to Peter Pan and Hello, Dolly! — her performances will be remembered for generations."

The actress, who was under five feet tall, made a name for herself by playing Tiger Lily on Broadway in 1954 in Peter Pan alongside Mary Martin and Cyril Ritchard. She also portrayed Minnie Fay in the original production of Hello, Dolly!

As well as acting, she worked as a coach, director and consultant during her successful career. Sondra taught at Stella Adler’s Conservatory and the NYU Drama School after she stopped dancing, and coached filmmakers around the globe.

She coached the likes of Jane Fonda, Marlon Brando, Dustin Hoffman, Amy Adams, Cyndi Lauper, and Joan Jett, and served as a consultant on more than a dozen movies, including The Last of the Mohicans.

The star was raised in Newark, but she was a poorly child who often contracted pneumonia. According to her official website, she was even given growth hormone shots because she was so tiny in stature.

However, she went on to study ballet under the tutelage of prima ballerina Alexandra Danilova at Studio 61 before breaking out on Broadway and TV.
