Coronation Street icon Beverley Callard has delivered another heartbreaking update during her arduous breast cancer fight, revealing to fans on her fourth day following surgery that she is finding it difficult to eat. The 68-year-old, who announced on February 19 that she was undergoing a 'big operation' the next day to have lymph nodes removed as a preventative measure to ensure the cancer hadn't spread, has been keeping her supporters informed about her recovery since the procedure.
And on Tuesday, she confessed that she was finding things tough and hadn't posted the previous day as she was 'completely knackered' and could 'do nothing', explaining that she was dozing intermittently throughout the day and couldn't even comb her hair. " In the video, the cherished actress revealed that her fourth husband Jon, whom she wed in 2010, has been "force feeding her" as she had "no appetite whatsoever - but I'm trying". She went on: "I'm not in pain, I'm really sore under my arm and I still have dressings on. I don't know what I look like, and I'm scared of that - I keep thinking, maybe this is too much information, but will John and I still be swinging from the chandeliers? Will I still be attractive or not? All that's going through my head."
She then added with greater optimism, "I've got a hospital appointment at 11am tomorrow so I'll find out if I need a second operation or not, reports the Mirror. But I'm doing OK. I'm doing OK."
Beverley, who recently joined the beloved Irish soap Fair City, revealed earlier this month that her breast cancer had fortunately been detected at the 'early stages' - and that she had been motivated to speak publicly about her serious health struggle by "strong, feisty women", adding that she would require radiotherapy.
However, this is not her first battle with cancer. Beverley was diagnosed with cervical cancer at just 32 - yet as she reassured fans, she "beat it" before, and she is confident she can do so again. The actress broke the shocking news of her breast cancer diagnosis on Ireland's Late Late Show with Patrick Kielty, telling viewers she was remaining "positive and strong."
"I had a hysterectomy and I was absolutely fine afterwards and so I know I can beat this. I am scared now vanity wise. I'm scared what I will look like. I'm scared about hair loss or whatever things like that."
Beverley became a familiar face in British households through Coronation Street, joining the cobbles in 1989 as Jim Donaldson's long-suffering wife - departing the soap in 2020 after three decades, maintaining that she was leaving to pursue other opportunities and challenge 'ageism' within the industry.
