Chris Hughes, who is best remembered for his work as a quizzer on the popular game show Eggheads, died at the age of 77 at his home in Crewe. The BBC announced his death on February 27, 2025, describing him as an "Eggheads great" but did not release a specific cause of death.

Starting in 2003, he became a member of the regular panel of quiz experts in the hit show. The talented quizzer is one of only seven individuals to have won both Mastermind and Brain of Britain. He also appeared on The Weakest Link on 24 September 2001, and was voted out in the final elimination round without answering a single question incorrectly during the whole show.

Details of his will have been revealed with Chris leaving the majority of his estate to charities and his cousin.

The late TV star was revealed to have a fortune of £199,997 with a net value £195,385, reports The Sun.

The newly released Grant of Probate revealed Chris gave £145,385 to his cousin. The remainder was divided between several charities in generous donations.

Chris left £20,000 to Cancer Research UK in a will he wrote in 2015.

The beloved quiz champion also gave £10,000 to the British Red Cross, Samaritans and Medecins Sans Frontieres.

He also stated in his will that he wished to be cremated.

Following his death, the Eggheads released a statement, which read: "It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Eggheads great Chris Hughes.

"Chris joined the show in 2003 and over the next 20 years gave us not only brilliant answers but very many laughs and happy memories. He will be hugely missed by all his Eggheads family."

Born in Enfield, Chris was educated at a local grammar school before going on to become a train driver and a railway worker.
