Teenage singing star Nicole Valeria Vargas Gomez has died at the age of 19 in a horror hit and run. The young star, who appeared on Columbia's version of The Voice Kids in 2019 at the age of 13, was killed in the incident in Quindio, Colombia as the driver fled the scene. Nicole was crossing the road with William Andres Paipa, 40, who also died when the vehicle smashed into them. Police said the impact was such that the pair were thrown through the air to the opposite sides of the road.
They confirmed the driver did not stop the help William and Nicole, but fled the scene. They are now searching for the vehicle which caused the deadly crash. Reports suggest the accident happened at 8:31 p.m. in front of a gas station. They claim the driver of the vehicle, identified as a truck, stopped further up the road to inspect it for damage and then continued on his way.
Reports further stated both victims were en route to a club called El Són del Despecho, where they were going to work at a brand promotino event.
Security cameras in the area captured the impact, and footage is seemingly being studied by authorities to find the driver.
Alongside singing the teenager was studying Business Administration student at the University of Quindío who paid tribute to the young star.
"Nicole was a young woman committed to her academic training and to the cultural life of our alma mater. From the classrooms and also from the stages, she left her mark through her discipline, sensitivity and deep love for art. As a member of Coranto, she always carried the name of the University of Quindio with honour to every meeting and performance," they wrote.
