A home holding a grisly secret linked to Hollywood icon Gene Hackman sold after just eight days on the market. The New Mexico estate was put up for sale in January and entered a contingent contract just over a week later. Now, a month after first going up for sale, the deal has closed and the property has been purchased.
The home used to belong to the A-list actor and his wife Betsy Arakawa, and they were both found dead alongside one of their dogs inside the property. The official contract price has not been disclosed and it is likely the final agreed upon closing price will remain private.
Their Australian Shepherd Zinna was also found dead in the home, having starved in a crate after receiving vet treatment. Two other dogs, Bear and Nikita, survived and were successfully rehomed after the tragedy.
Hackman and Arakawa first bought the 53-acre property in the 90s, building a main home with three bedrooms, along with a guesthouse and an artist studio.
Outside, it features a pool, a hot tub, a putting green and a pagoda.

Listing agent Tara S. Earley told the Wall Street Journal: “Everybody that came to see the property, the circumstances did not bother them. If it was a hurdle, then they had gotten over it.”
12 tours were hosted during the eight days the house was on the market.
