A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted at a park in Romford on Sunday evening. Police set up a cordon around Cottons Park at 7.30pm on February 15 and spoke to the alleged victim. The woman is described as being in her late teens and was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.
On Monday morning, an 18-year-old man was arrested in connection with the alleged incident and has been kept in custody. A cordon remains in place around the park and the gates have been locked. Officers and forensic tents are still at the scene carrying out further enquiries.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "It is believed the suspect and the woman were known to each other and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
"We appreciate the concern that this will cause, but we want to reassure people that we have a person in custody and have increased patrols in the local area."
