Tributes have flooded in for a British boyband following the tragic incident when their vehicle plunged into a canal in Stockholm, Sweden. All four band members, alongside their devoted manager, perished in the devastating crash. The up-and-coming indie-rock outfit's members from Warrington, Cheshire – vocalist Kris Leonard, guitarist River Reeves, bass player Tomas Lowe and drummer Jack Dakin – along with their manager Craig Tarry, who was travelling with the band, all lost their lives in the devastating incident in February 2016. The group, Viola Beach, is now honoured in their hometown, and on Friday, February 13, a new memorial was unveiled in Warrington town centre to mark the 10-year anniversary of their deaths. The display, located in the Old Market Square, features a 'V' constructed from rainbow umbrellas.

Ian Cox, centre director at Golden Square, stated: "Viola Beach will always be part of Warrington's story. 10 years on, their music and their spirit still mean so much to so many people."

He continued: "We wanted to create something visible in the Old Market Square where the band played that feels thoughtful and hopeful, a simple tribute that honours Kris, River, Tomas, Jack and Craig, and gives people a moment to pause, reflect and remember."

Honouring the band on Facebook, one supporter posted: "I remember hearing about the accident - absolutely heartbreaking. They were about to break through and do big things. I still listen to their album and remember them."

Another remarked: "This broke my heart when it happened, so much young talent just starting out, just getting the recognition they had worked hard for." A third added: "Sending love to all missing them. Thought of often."

The group's car crashed through the barriers of a bridge spanning a canal in Stockholm's Sodertalje area and plummeted into the water during the early hours of February 13th 2016. The bridge had been raised to allow vessels to pass beneath and was closing when the vehicle breached the barriers.

Inspector Martin Bergholm stated at the time: "For some reason, the car drove through the barriers and crashed down into the canal. Witnesses just saw a car beside them and kind of disappear."

An industry insider who witnessed their final performance at a music festival in Sweden, on their way home, told Express.co.uk that music industry figures in the audience were captivated and thrilled by the group. They reached No. 1 posthumously with their debut album.

The band members - self-described as "beer-drinking mates who just happen to make music" - hailed from Warrington and were well-known locally. Now the band and their manager are honoured with a commemorative plaque at Parr Hall in Warrington.

The striking bronze tribute eternally commemorates the band, celebrating their desire to "escape the ordinary", according to a family member. Jo Dakin, Jack's mother, stated: "A physical memorial will inspire others to be brave enough to follow their dreams and escape the ordinary – just like the band of brothers did."
