The BBC has issued a statement after an inquest confirmed how former Strictly Come Dancing professional Robin Windsor died. The dancer was found dead in a hotel room aged 44, having taken his own life. When Windsor was discovered at the Hoxton Hotel in Shepherd’s Bush, London, in February 2024, his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal drink-drive limit, and he had also consumed drugs.
The inquest jury found him being "vulnerable to rejection both emotionally and professionally" was among the "contributing factors” that led to his tragic death. It was determined that Robin completed suicide by ingestion of ethanol and gamma-butyrolactone. After around two hours of deliberation, the jury forewoman said: "We agree that the probable causes are an accumulation of many attributes to depression. Robin Jamie Windsor suffered from childhood trauma, he was vulnerable to rejection both emotionally and professionally.

"We also agree that loneliness, the lack of emotional maturity, the pressure of mounting debts, the lack of consistent mental health care and support and reoccurring heartache are all contributing factors of Robin Jamie Windsor’s mental health deterioration which in turn led him to take his own life."
Following the jury’s determination, a BBC spokesperson said: "Our sympathies are with Robin’s family, friends, and all who knew him. The whole of the Strictly Come Dancing family remain deeply saddened by his passing. Robin was a much-loved member of the team – both on and off air – during his time on the show.
"As the inquest has heard this week and the jury concluded, several complex factors contributed to how Robin felt at the time of his tragic death and our thoughts remain with all who knew and loved Robin."

The Latin and ballroom dancer joined Strictly in 2010 and was partnered with soap stars Patsy Kensit, Anita Dobson and Lisa Riley, as well as Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Deborah Meaden in four series until 2013.
After sustaining a back injury, Windsor was unable to perform in the 2014 series and was dropped by the BBC the following year.
Jurors at West London Coroner’s Court heard how Windsor was left "devastated" after being dropped from Strictly in 2015 and left a note about how the decision impacted him.
In the note to his close friend, he wrote: "This all really started when I lost my job on Strictly and have been fighting it ever since. The way they treated me destroyed me … it started me on the road I am still on."

“I had a good run, I’ve done some incredible things in my 44 years and had an unreal life doing what I loved, but all things must come to an end and my curtain has come down for the final time."
Jurors were told of a second note, addressed to his ex-partner actor Ollie Augustin. Windsor, who broke up with Augustin the year prior, wrote: "I need you to understand, this is not your fault!"
After the jury’s conclusion, Coroner Dr Anton van Dellen said: "I hope the family can take some comfort from the joy that Robin brought to so many people and the positive effect he had. That is a wonderful legacy.”
The coroner addressed Robin's family at the front of the courtroom, adding: “I hope you can think of the happy times he brought to the public and the deep affection the public held him in."
