
Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Staff Sergeant Kris Clark stated there are several victims following the shooting in Tumbler Ridge, an isolated region in Canada, The Mirror reports.
Officers have entered the school in Tumbler Ridge, located at the foothills of the Rockies in British Columbia, and an air ambulance was deployed to the scene, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported.
The RCMP issued an emergency alert for Tumbler Ridge residents and surrounding areas at 3:15pm on Tuesday, 10 February, after receiving reports of an active shooter at a school.
"Those in Tumbler Ridge area are asked to stay inside and shelter in place, lock your doors and refrain from leaving your home or business at this time," the RCMP said.
The situation was ongoing as of 5:20pm local time, according to reports.
Authorities described the suspect as a female wearing a dress with brown hair, local broadcaster CJDC-TV News reported.
The RCMP has since confirmed the suspect involved in the shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School was discovered dead.
"The original suspect is believed to have been located deceased. Work continues to determine whether a second suspect was involved and the total number of victims involved," Staff Sergeant Kris Clark said. Police are investigating the possibility of a second suspect's involvement in the incident.
CJDC-TV News reported that all available police officers in the region are en route to Tumbler Ridge.
"The district is aware of a lockdown and secure and hold at Tumbler Ridge Secondary and Tumbler Ridge Elementary schools," stated School District 59.
