Piers Morgan launched a blistering attack on Keir Starmer following the announcement that Morgan McSweeney has resigned from government in the wake of the Lord Peter Mandelson scandal. The prime minister's former chief of staff said he took "full responsibility" for advising Starmer to appoint Madelson as the UK's ambassador to the US, despite all knowing that he had a friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The Uncensored host, 60, has now issued a damning verdict, claiming Starmer has forced McSweeney to resign to save himself.
But he is certain the prime minister will not be running the country for much longer. He wrote: "Starmer chucking his right-hand man under the bus to save his own skin. Seen this playbook many times.. it never works. He’ll be gone too, soon." In a separate post, the presenter acknowledged that Starmer is a "decent man", but urged him to resign for the "good of the country".
He said: "Keir, you’re a good man. A decent man. An Arsenal fan (always a good test of a man). When you did Life Stories, I found your remarkable journey to the top of British politics very inspiring. But this can’t go on. For the good of the country, resign."
Starmer appears keen to fight for his premiership, but the calls for him to step down are only getting louder.
She wrote: "Add Keir Starmer's newfound concern for victims of Peter Mandelson's bestie to his backflip on whether women can have penises and his U-turn on the Rotherham grooming gangs inquiry."
The jibe was a reference to Starmer having previously ruled out calls for a nationwide enquiry into grooming gangs, which he described as a right-wing dogwhistle, before he made a U-turn just weeks later.
The author added: "Starmer is indifferent to harm done to girls and women unless it threatens his career. #StarmerOut."
Mandelson's relationship with the paedophile continued after his conviction for soliciting sex from a minor in 2008. The Labour veteran was appointed as the UK's ambassador in Washington in December 2024.
After Downing Street discovered new information about the extent of their relationship, including supportive emails sent by Mandelson while Epstein faced charges for sex offences in 2008, he was sacked by Starmer.
An investigation has now been launched into allegations that he leaked sensitive information to Epstein when he was business secretary. The prime minister will address Labour MPs today, battling to cling onto his premiership as the scandal continues.
