Viewers were left in floods of tears during Wednesday’s episode of ITV's Grantchester (February 4) after a surprise twist delivered one of the show’s most emotional moments to date. While the episode centred on Alphy and Geordie tackling another troubling case in the village, it was a quiet side story that completely caught fans off guard — and reduced many to tears. Geordie's colleagues, Miss Scott (Melissa Johns) and Larry Peters (Bradley Hall), had been planning to marry in secret, keeping their happiness under wraps as they prepared to slip away.
The pair’s low-key plan appeared set to go unnoticed — until Geordie started to piece together what was really going on. In an emotional twist, Geordie raced to the church, arriving just in time. He then dramatically stepped in to give them a loving and meaningful wedding surrounded by close friends. He sent, reaching for the tissues when he gave Miss Scott away as Reverend Alphy officiated the intimate ceremony.
Fans were especially moved by Geordie’s reaction, with the normally gruff detective visibly emotional as he stood in the church. As tears welled up, he brushed them off with a line about “dust in the church” — a moment that sent viewers over the edge.
"Darn it. Two weeks running #Grantchester has had me sobbing. What a great show," said one fan. Another echoed: "I need to start drinking while watching #Grantchester. Two weeks running I'm wrecked"
While a third penned: "What another brilliant, astonished, heartbreaking, heartwarming episode of #Grantchester. Top performances from all the cast. I'm absolutely broken."
