Beloved TV star Taylor Tuli Wily’s cause of death has been confirmed after the Hawaii Five-O star passed away in June 2024 aged just 56. The actor – best known for appearing in more than 100 episodes of the hit series – died in Utah last year after suffering a horror wheelchair accident a few months prior.

The plus sized actor, who used a wheelchair, was being transported into a van when the ramp “snapped” and stopped working, sending him tumbling from the platform and onto the pavement. He hit his head in the fall, and now a lawsuit has been filed by his family claiming that those injuries led to his death. 

The lawsuit was filed on September 26, and, according to the US Sun, seeks more than $50,000 and a jury trial, claiming Wily was unable to get treatment that would have saved his life. He died eight months after the alleged fall.

It has been filed against Nevada-based transportation company GMTCare, accusing it of failing to ensure the lift was safe to use and accusing it of negligence.

The plus-size actor, who used to be a sumo wrestler, also competed in the UFC and went undefeated in his first 14 matches. He officially retired from sumo in 1989, and went on to become an actor.

His obituary read: “Our gentle, loving soul, entered this world on June 14, 1969, Honolulu, Hawaii, and returned to the loving arms of our heavenly father and family members awaiting his arrival on June 20, 2024, Hurricane, Utah.

“Taylor was born to Kuinise Wily and Levaosina Alo, and was raised in Laie, Hawaii, with a presence that exuded love of family and community.

“His presence will truly be missed but the knowledge and understanding that a reunion will occur where all will be met with that beautiful big smile, arms extended and Taylor saying ‘Auuuuright, Welcome Home!’”
