A mother has delivered a record-breaking infant who tipped the scales at nearly 13lbs.

Shelby Martin posted a photograph of herself sporting an enormous baby bump alongside additional pictures of her newborn son Cassian.

His extraordinary size has propelled him to viral fame across social media platforms and secured coverage on Nashville, Tennessee's regional news broadcasts. The news comes as parents revealed how their baby had to go into hospital on our holiday to Cyprus - one thing saved them.

In a hospital photograph captured before labour commenced, she was beaming whilst a caption declared: "When people talk about having a big baby like idk ball. But trust me... I know ball."

The subsequent image revealed her son immediately following delivery, registering a substantial 12lb 14oz, reports the Mirror.

A 3-month-old baby's average weight is around 12 pounds, with boys generally weighing slightly more than girls.

Television news outlet WSMV featured a photograph of Cassian at Tristar Centennial Women's Hospital, confirming he represented the largest infant born at the facility during the previous three years.

Adding further significance to the occasion, Shelby welcomed her son on her own birthday, describing him as her "greatest gift".

The photographs have since accumulated over four million likes on TikTok alongside 35 million views.

Numerous commenters expressed astonishment at the newborn's dimensions, jesting that he already resembled adult proportions.

One individual remarked: "I usually don't advocate for "push presents", but girl, you better demand EVERYTHING."

Another quipped: "Did he drive y'all home afterwards?"

Meanwhile, a further commenter enquired: "Congratulations, but like are you ok?" whilst additional responses included: "Please tell me you did a C-section" alongside: "How did they get him out?" His grandmother took to Instagram to explain his need for hospitalisation after birth due to potential glucose level issues in larger babies. She penned: "Cassian has been in the NICU since almost immediately after the c-section.

"When it comes to big babies sometimes when they are born their glucose levels are out of wack and they need to be monitored. He is on an IV and oxygen.

"They will be keeping him overnight. I have not gotten to hold him in my arms or kiss his skin. I miss my son so bad but I know he is in good hands. I cannot wait to love on him."

However, she later posted a photo of him doing well in hospital, exclaiming: "Oh my God! ! ! He is perfect! ! I could just eat those cheeks up!".
