Claire's Accessories is closing 145 branches across the UK and Ireland after its sale to investment group Modella Capital. Administrators at Interpath announced on Monday that Claire's future on UK high streets had been secured with the majority of its UK business and assets sold to Modella.

But 145 Claire's shops weren't included as part of the deal, putting around 1,000 jobs at risk. Interpath had said it would keep those branches open as usual for as long as it could while it assesses options for them. The future of 156 branches was secured as part of the Modella deal.

The shops are set to permanently close, with sales starting at those affected this weekend, according to The Sun. It reported that exact closure dates vary by location.

Claire's appointed administrators for its business in the UK and Ireland last month after filing for bankruptcy in the United States.

Its buyer Modella has become a major player in Britain's retail industry, having swooped in to buy WH Smith's high street chain earlier this year.

Modella also took over arts and crafts retailer Hobbycraft last year. The WH Smith shops, which do not include those at travel hubs, are in the process of being rebranded to TGJones.
