Autumn boots from H&M, Vagabond, ASOS

Our team has picked out their favourite boots for autumn (Image: H&M, Vagabond, ASOS)

Boots are a must-have in any autumn and winter wardrobe, and while practicality is important, it doesn't mean you have to scrimp on personal style. The right pair can carry you through the colder months feeling cosy and looking great.

Right now, the high street is backed with options. Whether you're into classic Chelseas, boho slouchy styles, or sturdy lace-ups, there’s something out there with your name on it. Granted, they can be an investment, but the good ones will stick with you for seasons to come.

To help narrow things down, we asked the Express team to share their tried-and-true autumn and winter favourites. You’ll find everything from high street gems like these pointed-toe pull-on Chelseas from H&M that look way pricier than they are, to statement-makers like these ASOS knee-highs that come in an eye-catching crocodile print.

All of the team’s picks are available online now.

H&M Chelsea Boots – £37.99

Aimee Robinson, Shopping and Affiliates Editor

When it comes to affordable style, H&M is one of my go-tos on the high street. I actually bought these exact black Chelsea boots last year, and they've carried me through the whole year. I love the shape and the slight heel, which means they're comfy to wear but still smart enough to dress up when needed. If you don't like the black faux leather, they also come in brown and black faux suede (made from polyester).

Vagabond Blanca boots – £145

Sally Newall, Head of Affiliates

Vagabond’s leather boots aren’t cheap, but factor in the cost-per-wear, and they are a good investment. I have the black Blancas, and with their square toe, low block heel, and minimal aesthetic, they go with everything. If I were buying for autumn, I'd go for the on-trend dark brown.

Fitflop Suede Lace-Up Flatform Ankle Boots – £170

Lisa Clark, Art Director

The great thing about Fitflop footwear is how comfy it is from the get-go, no breaking in or blisters ever, and I have many different styles from this fabulous brand.

These suede beauties, with a thick wedge sole, are just the thing to keep your feet cosy in the most stylish way, and an inside zip means no fiddling with laces. Available in taupe and black, they come up to mid-calf even though they're described as ankle boots, so ideal with skirts as well as leggings or trousers.

Frank James Aintree Leather Chelsea Boots – £38.99

These Chelsea boots are a total bargain (Image: Debenhams)

Frances Millar, Associate Editor

I hate fussy footwear, and shoes and boots designed for women often have unnecessary buckles, clumpy soles, or pointy toes. Just give me a simple Chelsea boot! They are classic, comfy, and easy to pull on and off. And, given that this pair is currently reduced, they are a total bargain.

ASOS block heel knee boots in black croc – £55

Lotti O'Brien, News Reporter

Each year, ASOS offers a great pair of knee-high, heeled crocodile boots. I bought a pair three years ago, and they are still in near-perfect condition, making the cost per wear just pennies. These statement boots immediately jazz up the simplest of outfits, but one of my favourite hacks is to wear them underneath wider-legged trousers for an added layer of warmth in the winter.

Blundstone #500 – £137.99

Hanna Geissler, Health Editor

My rustic brown #585 Blundstones were an investment a couple of years ago and have become my go-to for both everyday wear and travelling. They’re comfortable, long-lasting and versatile — I’ve worn them on countryside walks, in the desert, and even to the office once or twice. For a slightly different look, I would choose the Blundstone #500, this lovely, versatile shade of stout brown.

Schuh Blowfish Malibu Rhoxer Cozy – £80

Emily says these boots are hard-wearing and last for years (Image: Schuh)

Emily Wright, World News Reporter

I've always loved Blowfish boots for the autumn as they're really affordable compared with other brands. They're also hard-wearing and last for years. They're great for walks but also smart enough for work. I bought the Blowfish Malibu Rhoxer Cozy in beige last year (which are still on sale in limited sizes), but I was also very tempted by the same pair in dark brown as I think they'd go with so much more.

Monsoon Biker Boots – £95

Biker boots are having a bit of a moment this season. They're edgy enough to add a cool twist to any outfit, but with a low heel that makes them comfy enough for everyday wear. I saw so many people wearing them over the summer with mini dresses, but they're the kind of piece that transitions effortlessly into autumn and beyond. This pair from Monsoon, available at Marks & Spencer, comes with a handy zip fastening, so they're super easy to slip on and off.  AR
