Dame Patricia Routledge had a long list of successful stints in her acting career prior to her death aged 96. After a successful career on TV, particularly with Keeping Up Appearances, her final project took place in 2005, she stepped away from the spotlight for a quiet life in Chichester and projects were few and far between, but she did make one brief appearance on TV earlier this year.
To mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Patricia appeared on BBC to talk about her memories of the war as a child living in Liverpool.
She said on the show: "It was unforgettable. Hundreds of people went down to Woodside Ferry to congregate, sing, shout hurrah and just be together."
Her fanpage at the time was thrilled to see her on screen, with one fan saying at the time: "The fictional character in the absolutely brilliant BBC sitcom, Hyacinth Bucket, in Keeping up Appearances is still impressive today. What a joy to see such a fabulous lady on a day of the VE Day 80th anniversary."
Another wrote: "It was great to see her on the 80th VE day programme. Looking amazing too!" While a third said: "What a lovely lady."
Known best for Keeping Up Apearances and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, Patricia had lots of time on TV with those most notable projects taking place between 1990-1998.
Keeping Up Appearances saw her appear in 44 episodes, and 27 of Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, where she played the namesake.
After that, her work started to dry up as she took fewer projects. Since her 1998 gig as Hetty Wainthropp, she took part in Talking Heads 2, Anybody's Nightmare, In Search of the Brontes, and her final gig was as the narrator of Blips.
The actress worked across two seasons of the show until 2005 where she performed her last bit of acting work, she's had no roles of note since.
It had been twenty years since the actress worked on any kind of screen work, but her last project was a children's TV show for CITV. The series focused on the mute character Mr Perfect, who attempted to complete tasks perfectly.
Animated Blips characters would interfere and make him fail, Patricia narrated these episodes until it ended in 2005.
After the series ended she mostly stepped back from the spotlight, but her fans widely remembered her as her character Hyacinth in Keeping Up Appearances, the social climber who would lose her temper if someone pronounced her name wrong.
The news of Patricia's death emerged on Friday, October 3, as her agent said: "We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of Dame Patricia Routledge, who died peacefully in her sleep this morning surrounded by love."
