A father tortured and killed his tenant after being told the 45-year-old raped his daughter and made her pregnant.
The man turned himself in to police in Delhi, India, admitting to what had happened but he was quickly hailed by many as a hero for getting vengeance on his daughter.
According to reports from 2014, the dad burned the alleged rapist with a hot spatula before killing him after finding out his daughter was pregnant.
Police said: “Based on his statement, we sent a team to the spot and recovered the body. It has been sent for a post-mortem examination and his family has been informed.
“A case of murder has been registered and the man has been arrested."
The incident unfolded in the Chandu Nagar slum in the Khajuri Khas area of north-east Delhi.
The dad allegedly told the police: “I burned his genitals once, he screamed. I did it again, he shuddered. When I did it the third time, he did not move”.
Police said the 2014 rape happened two months before father killed the tenant. The daughter discovered she was pregnant which was when her dad found out about the rape.
“She started complaining of morning sickness and dizziness. We took her to a doctor and we were told that she was pregnant. We were shocked,” the girl's mom is quoted as saying.
“She stopped smiling. She stopped eating properly or going out with her friends,” she added.
The girl's father had told his wife he was going down to chat to the tenant and she didn't suspect anything was amiss.
In the small 6ft by 8ft rented room the dad told police he tied up and gagged the tenant, heated a steel spatula on the stove and burned his genitals.
The girl told reporters that she had been home alone when the tenant "pulled me into his room, tied my hands and raped me". The tenant then went on to threaten to kill the girl's dad if she told anyone about what happened.
But when the girl began vomiting and she was taken to the doctor, it was revealed she was pregnant.
"First he [her dad] was very angry with me. When I told him it was the tenant, he said he would teach him a lesson," the teenager revealed.
The dad eventually walking into a local police station to confess his crimes.
"He looked very nervous. He said he had made a mistake, he said he had killed someone," shared sub-inspector Arun Kumar, who first spoke to him.
"He said that when confronted, the tenant had taunted him [the father]. This is a case of grave and sudden provocation," the officer added, BBC reported at the time.
The killing led to an outpouring of sympathy to the dad, with many hailing him as a hero.
"Any father would do that," one local said.
They added: "What's the point of going to the police and courts? They ask for all kinds of evidence. In our country, justice takes too long. Justice should be done in two months, but here cases go on for six-seven years."
