Strictly Come Dancing has officially kicked off with its first live show. On Saturday (September 27), 15 new celebrities took to the dancefloor to start their bid at winning the coveted Glitterball Trophy. Already, many viewers at home have given their verdict on who they believe will be the first to leave, and which contestant is the early favourite to win this series. One former professional dancer, who has previously appeared on Strictly, has shared her opinion on a particular individual and their performance.

The former Apprentice star, Thomas Skinner, is partnered up with Amy Dowden, and during Week One, they performed a dazzling Paso Doble routine but failed to impress the judges. Anton Du Beke remarked, "I need a bit more next week," whilst Craig Revel Horwood said, "It was very square, flat and stumpy, and it was more tin soldier than it was matador. It wasn't for me at all."

Now, Ola Jordan has teamed up with Mecca Bingo to have her say on Thomas' first performance, and it's fair to say she was equally unimpressed. She commented: “I don’t really have much to say. He was walking a lot.

"Paso is one of the easier dances because you can walk and do shapes, but he had no body shaping, not much movement. Just walking. It was nothing special, and it didn’t impress me."

The mum-of-one then revealed who she thought was the biggest surprise for her: “Karen [Carney] was a big surprise for me. I think she was probably the biggest surprise of the night. I thought she was great. She can move very well, light on her feet, great timing. For me, her posture needs work. With some of the other dances, she probably will struggle.”

She also mentioned: “I love Lewis [Cope], and I love Katya [Jones]. What a couple. That’s what I thought when they got paired –before I even saw the Jive. They’re really good looking, they match so well.”

Rounding off her opinion, she concluded: “Karen and Carlos were a surprise with a great Jive. Lewis, George, and Amber are ones to watch. Thomas disappointed me; I expected a bit more. La Voix too, they were quite high on the leaderboard, but I expected more.”

Given that there’s no elimination in week one, all 15 celebrities will be back for Week Two, where the first pair will be sent home from the competition.

Following Dani Dyer’s injury withdrawal last week, producers drafted in another former Love Island winner and West End star, Amber Davies, as her replacement.

She brings with her an impressive theatre background, having starred in 9 to 5: The Musical, Back to the Future: The Musical, The Great Gatsby, and Pretty Woman.

She only started rehearsals with her partner, Nikita Kuzmin, last Friday and danced a Waltz during Saturday night’s first live show of the series.

Strictly Come Dancing resumes this weekend on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
