Strictly Come Dancing's Thomas Skinner has enlisted the services of Tom Holland's former bodyguard, following a series of death threats. Ex-Royal Marine Daniel Gilbert was spotted alongside the former The Apprentice star at Surrey's Kempton Park Racecourse on Thursday, as he filmed scenes for the upcoming Saturday show. Daniel was seen vigilantly watching over Thomas and his dance partner, Amy Dowden, as they filmed at a market stall.
Daniel has previously provided security for numerous high-profile celebrities, including Spider-Man actor Tom Holland during a pro-am golf tournament in Wentworth, Surrey last year. He also worked on Love Island All Stars in South Africa with Maya Jama. An insider stated, "He's one of the best in the industry. He's trained to the best standard and nothing gets past him. Thomas is in safe hands."
This development follows reports that Strictly bosses are growing increasingly concerned for the Essex entrepreneur after he received multiple threats. The father of three found himself in the firing line after sharing a photo on social media with US Vice President JD Vance.
Last month, during his UK visit, the political figure invited him to a barbecue in the Cotswolds.
Thomas revealed, "I've had loads of death threats. People say I am a political figure that I'm actually not. The Left seems to be attacking me every day on social media. The Right seem to see me as a figurehead. It's been a bit much for me."
The BBC has reportedly ramped up security measures this year to ensure the safety of all Strictly Come Dancing contestants and dancers. They've replaced Olympus Security (UK), which previously worked at Elstree Studios, where Strictly is filmed, with SRM Security, a firm specialising in film and TV industry work.
An insider revealed to The Sun: "Bosses take show security very seriously and have a new, top-notch company on set. They're sending close protection officers with all the contestants when they are filming on location.
"The production team wants all the talent to feel at ease and happy so they can focus on dancing and enjoying their time on the show. Thomas especially has attracted a lot of attention and has been open about receiving death threats."
Strictly has had its fair share of security issues in the past. In 2020, Dianne Buswell was subjected to death threats.
Ex-servicemen were also brought in after judge Motsi Mabuse became a target for racists in 2019, while head judge Shirley Ballas has also faced threats on several occasions.
A BBC spokesperson told the publication: "While we wouldn't comment on specific security matters, there have been no changes to existing protocols based on a specific cast member."
