Sarah Ferguson has been left “devastated” after a difficult week, it has been revealed. The Duchess of York, 65, has been back in the spotlight over the last seven days for all the wrong reasons after it was revealed that she had emailed the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein in 2011 after he had been released from prison for child sex offences.
In the email, Sarah told Epstein - who she called her “supreme friend” - that she was sorry for disowning him in an interview. Her spokesperson has since claimed that the apology from Sarah came as she feared he was set to sue her for defamation.
The scandal has resulted in plenty of uncertainty for Prince Andrew’s ex-wife regarding her royal future and it is understood she is upset by "the embarrassment" she caused for the Royal Family.
It is understood both Sarah and Prince Andrew - who has also found himself in various scandals regarding his previous friendship with Epstein over the years - have been uninvited from the Christmas celebrations.
Friends of King Charles have claimed that the monarch, 76, wants the couple to be “invisible” at future gatherings.
This has reportedly left Sarah feeling “devastated for any embarrassment” she has caused the Royal Family.
She is reportedly also extremely upset by the fact she has been dropped as patron for a number of charities as a result of this latest scandal.
While Sarah and Prince Andrew did not attend Christmas at Sandringham last year, as Andrew had been caught up in another scandal involving an alleged Chinese spy, they were present the year before.
This is because it is believed that although they are not working royals, the King has also been keen to look out for his brother and Sarah.
It is not known whether Andrew and Sarah’s daughters Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 35, will still attend the royal Christmas celebrations with their husbands and children.
