Donald Trump has launched a withering attack on Vladimir Putin in a new post to his Truth Social website. The US President met his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, on the sidelines of the United Nations on Tuesday.

Trump hailed Ukraine's brave resistance, saying his administration "deeply respected" the fight the country was putting up. He added that Ukraine was "doing a very effective job" of stopping Putin's army, as Zelensky revealed that Kyiv's forces had liberated 360 square kilometres and captured around 1,000 Russian soldiers in recent weeks. Later, Trump took to his Truth Social site to taunt Russia's president with a brutal two-word jibe.

"Russia has been fighting aimlessly for three and a half years," he wrote.

"A War that should have taken a Real Military Power less than a week to win. This is not distinguishing Russia."

The US President then landed his knock-out punch, saying the Russian army's poor battlefield performance was making it look very much like "a paper tiger".

Trump didn't stop there, as he pummelled the Kremlin tyrant with further bruising taunts. He said there was no reason why Kyiv's army could not go on to "WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form.

"With time, patience, and the financial support of Europe and, in particular, NATO, the original Borders from where this War started, is very much an option."

This is likely to come as a major blow to the Kremlin, given that previously the White House said Zelensky would have to cede land to Russia to secure a peace deal.

Trump turned his fire on to Russia's ailing economy, hinting Putin was in real pickle.

"Putin and Russia are in BIG Economic trouble, and this is the time for Ukraine to act," he said.

In conclusion, he wrote: "We will continue to supply weapons to NATO for NATO to do what they want with them. Good luck to all!"
