Chart-topping star Clive Jackson, better known as The Doctor from Doctor and The Medics, took to social media to share his delight as his bandmates, drummer Ade Hill and bassist Jon Randle, enjoyed a successful appearance on the BBC's Bargain Hunt recently. While Ade and Jon weren't a part of the group in their chart-topping heyday, they joined the band when it reformed in 2003 and have been with it ever since. The group and its charismatic frontman are hugely in demand at festivals as well as playing their own shows.

The pair appeared on the BBC One daytime show on September 8 when they came from Newark in Nottingham. Natasha Raskin Sharp hosted the episode, which saw them paired with expert Philip Serrell. Prior to starting their hunt, they admitted their antique knowledge was limited, although Jon said he collects guitars, and Ade revealed he was interested in music memorabilia.

Despite their apparent lack of knowledge, the duo seemed to have a good eye and ended up turning a £63 profit, which wiped the floor with the blue team's £8.

They were both awarded the show's famous golden gavel pin alongside mentor Phillip, and The Doctor couldn't have been prouder.

Taking to the band's social media page, he wrote, "It's a very proud day for us all here at Medic's Mansions. In 1986, we had the fourth-top-selling record and the most-watched video of the year.

"Not only were we not nominated at The Brits that year (The first ever televised with Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood), but we were totally snubbed and not even invited!

"Well I'm not a man to bear a grudge but Brits.. and come to think of it.. Mercury Prize and Ivor Novello.. You can stick your awards where the sun don't shine because these two beauties have bought home the greatest achievement in Medic's history.

"Elton John, Mick Jagger, Noel Gallagher, Fleetwood Mack, Cliff Richards, Paul and Ringo, Adele, The Stranglers.. You boys took one hell of a beating.. NONE of you can boast the Golden Gavel in your swelling awards cabinets," he quipped.

"Well, these two heroes didn't just bring one back—but TWO! They are absolute legends, so let's hear it for Ade Hill and Jon Randle! Please note that plans for an open-top Bus Parade can not be confirmed, but please watch this space!" He joked.

Doctor and The Medics topped the charts for three weeks in 1986 with their cover of Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky. This was two weeks longer than Norman, who hit the top spot with the song in 1970.
