New weather maps have revealed when temperatures will plunge to freezing in parts of the UK as brutal cold weather hits and summer comes to a sudden end.
Maps from WXCHARTS, aided by Metdesk data, show temperatures dropping to 0C in parts of Scotland, while much of the UK sits below 5C on Sunday September 21. The coldest temperatures are expected near Fort William in northwest Scotland, while much of the country chills in conditions of 3C or below.- As for England, maps show lows of 1C in the north near Newcastle and the border with Scotland.
The rest of the country will see temperatures of between 6C and 8C, while Wales is forecast to see lows of 5C. Northern Ireland is forecast to see temperatures of between 5C and 6C.
WXCHARTS' forecast comes as the Met Office issues weather warnings for rain in parts of the UK.
Yellow weather warnings are in place for areas of Scotland, northern England and Wales. The warning is in place from Saturday morning until early on Sunday.
In a statement online, the Met Office said: "Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area."
The Met Office's forecast for Saturday says: "Band of rain positioned southwest to northeast across the UK, heavy in the afternoon for parts of Wales and northern England. Sunny spells either side of this but with some showers, perhaps thundery in the far southeast for a time."
The service adds that, on Saturday evening, heavy rain will eventually clear southeastwards with strong winds.
Blustery showers and clear spells will be seen in the north, while Scotland could see some rural frost.
Heading into Sunday, light rain will move south, hitting England and Wales, while "showers follow from the north, heralding a cooler feel with temperatures falling below average. Marked wind chill in the northeast", according to the Met Office.
