Nearly three years have passed since The Light in the Hall made its debut on Channel 4, and the broadcaster has at last revealed particulars regarding a second series. The acclaimed mystery drama - alternatively titled Y Golau - initially broadcast on S4C in 2022 before arriving on Channel 4 in January 2023. The six-episode series is set in Llanemlyn, a Welsh town in the west, and incorporates both English and Welsh languages throughout.

The inaugural series, featuring Joanna Scanlan, Iwan Rheon and Alexandra Roach, followed the tale of a heartbroken mother seeking answers about her daughter's fate, who vanished 18 years previously. The second series will showcase an entirely fresh cast but will return to Llanemlyn once more, with a completely new narrative set to unfold, reports Wales Online

Spearheading the cast is Holby City's Siân Reese-Williams, portraying Caryl Huws, alongside Hostage's Mark Lewis-Jones as Rhys Owen.

The duo are accompanied by Keeping Faith star Nia Roberts in the part of Eve Davies, plus Sherwood actor Robert Glenister as Robert Davies.

Additionally appearing in the forthcoming drama is White Lines star Tom Rhys Harries as Hari Breckon, The Red King actress Maeve Courtier-Lilly as Mabli Davies Owen and Wyn Bowen Harries, star of Steeltown Murders, as Bryn Owen.

Mali Tudno Jones will feature as Megan Breckon, with Matthew Gravelle taking on Gareth Breckon and Gillian Elisa depicting Eunice.

Series two of The Light in the Hall centres on a "controversial redevelopment plan to expand the reservoir reigniting old tensions".

The synopsis continues: "The story captivates Caryl, a young journalist, who becomes entangled in a complex web of personal betrayal, familial secrets, and dark mysteries, which raises doubts about the imprisonment of Rhys Owen for the murder of his cousin Llŷr during the protest against the expansion in 1995."

The debut series of The Light in the Hall proved enormously popular with viewers, who described it as "fantastic" in social media reviews.

Reactions at the time featured: "A drama that's gone under the radar a bit is Welsh drama The Light In The Hall on Channel 4! The wonderful Joanna Scanlon with Iwan Rheon. Well worth the watch!".

Another drew comparisons between The Light in the Hall and ITV's Vera, commenting: "The Light in the Hall's a fantastic series, Channel 4. It's a Vera-ish story."

Y Golau: Dŵr will arrive on S4C on Sunday, 14 September. The English language version, The Light in the Hall: Still Waters, will be released on Channel 4 at a later date.
