The second season of Gen V is set to return this week, taking fans back into the world of The Boys, albeit with a notable absence from the cast.
The popular comic book drama, based on Garth Ennis's series, unfolds in an alternate universe where Earth is inhabited by powerful and egotistical superheroes.
Prime Video's first live-action spin-off from the successful series, Gen V, centres around the students of Godolkin University, an institution that moulds 'supes' into heroes and celebrities whilst clandestinely conducting sinister experiments on them.
Premiering this Wednesday, 17th September, the second season will resume following the conclusion of the latest season of the main series, which saw America's most deranged supe, Homelander (portrayed by Antony Starr), seizing control.
However, Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and her fellow Godolkin students will be grappling with their own tragedy, reports <a href="https://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/how-did-chance-perdomo-die-35910770" rel="Follow" target="_self">the Mirror</a>.
Showrunner Eric Kripke has confirmed that key character Andre Anderson will not be recast but written out of the series following the tragic demise of actor Chance Perdomo.
The actor is thought to have died in a motorcycle accident last year, either late on 29th March or early on 30th March, while en route from Upstate New York to Toronto to commence filming for Gen V's second season.
Perdomo, also known for his portrayal of Ambrose Spellman in Netflix's Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, was just 27 years old.
The untimely demise of Chance Perdomo brought the production of Gen V season two to a standstill. The show's creator, Kripke, and the writing team decided to alter the storyline as a mark of respect for the promising young actor.
Following the tragic news, Deadline published a statement from Perdomo's representatives and family requesting privacy during this difficult time.
"His passion for the arts and insatiable appetite for life was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth will carry on in those whom he loved dearest," the statement read.
"We ask you to please respect the family's wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their beloved son and brother."
The producers of Gen V also released a statement expressing their shock and grief: "We can't quite wrap our heads around this.
"For those of us who knew him and worked with him, Chance was always charming and smiling, an enthusiastic force of nature, an incredibly talented performer, and more than anything else, just a very kind, lovely person.
"Even writing about him in the past tense doesn't make sense. We are so sorry for Chance's family, and we are grieving the loss of our friend and colleague. Hug your loved ones tonight."
Representatives from Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television also expressed their condolences: "The entire Gen V family is devastated by the sudden passing of Chance Perdomo.
"Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television extend our heartfelt thoughts and support to Chance's family and all who loved him at this difficult time."
Gen V season 2 premieres Wednesday, 17th September on Prime Video.
