A period drama hailed by fans as “excellent” will be returning for a second outing, it has been confirmed.

Work is now taking place on season two of Outlander: Blood of My Blood in Scotland, with cast members Harriet Slater, Jamie Roy, Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine returning to shoot the new episodes.

The Starz costume drama is a prequel to the highly successful Outlander, following the parents of Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe), and received a hugely positive reaction when it debuted.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood charts the epic love stories between Ellen MacKenzie (Slater) and Brian Fraser (Roy) and that of Henry (Irvine) and Julia Beauchamp (Corfield).

While nodding to its predecessor, Outlander: Blood of My Blood breaks new ground with fresh stories that build on the lore of the parent series.

The new series sees 20th century couple Henry and Julia propelled through time back to 18th century Scotland and separated.

While the time travellers are trying to find each other and return to their own era, Ellen and Brian are rival clan members who embark on a passionate romance despite their family allegiances.

Along with the main cast, the show also features Shetland star Sara Vickers, Mary & George’s Tony Curran, Peter Mullan of Ozark fame, and Ackley Bridge star Sam Retford, among others.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood launched back in August and even before a single episode aired, Starz gave the green light for season two showing their confidence in the drama.
